Why this topic matters

Misconceptions about the hiring and the application process distract designers from what really matters when it comes to landing a new role. In this session, design recruiter extraordinaire, Hang Xu, and I will rank common beliefs about the application process (from TRUE to PANTS-ON-FIRE). Learn to focus on what areas matter most so you can ignore the rest.

Ryan Scott

Design leader · Ex-Airbnb & DoorDash · U.C. Berkeley MBA

For 20-years, Ryan has run multiple businesses, taught thousands of designers, and designed some of today’s most recognizable products.

As a candidate, Ryan successfully landed desirable roles at top Silicon Valley firms like Airbnb, DoorDash, Palantir, & Salesforce. He's recently helped designers get hired despite a terrible job market.

In addition to a degree in graphic design, Ryan earned his MBA from U.C. Berkeley's Haas School of Business. His business expertise give him a unique insight into the design industry's recent shifts, which he uses to help Designers understand and beat the job market.
